About Us

What is the American Legion

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by United States Congress in 1919 as a war time patriotic Veterans' organization devoted to mutual helpfulness to our active military and Veterans. It's the Nation's largest and 2nd oldest Veterans' service organization in the country, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security and continued devotion to our fellow active service members, Veterans and their families.
